I am a clinical psychologist and certified addiction specialist, currently serving as the Director of the Medical Staff Assistance Programs and TeamSTEPPS for The MetroHealth System. I am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with Case Western Reserve, School of Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry at MetroHealth Medical Center and also an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Psychology at CWRU.  In the past, I have served as Director of Chemical Dependency Treatment with the Department of Psychiatry at MetroHealth Medical Center for ten years.  Upon leaving MetroHealth, I worked in private practice and as a consultant with a number of treatment programs, state and federal organizations, such as the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. .

In addition, I have served as the principle investigator on two demonstration projects regarding innovative treatment approaches for chemically dependent and mentally ill men and women. I have provided corporate educational programs regarding substance abuse and mental illness, established drug-free workplace programs, implemented employee assistance programs and served as a forensic psychologist in state and federal criminal cases. Most recently, my efforts have focused upon the area of Positive Psychology and I am developing and presenting educational programs to promote “resilience” among healthcare professionals.

Finally, I am the Organizational Champion of TeamSTEPPS for the MetroHealth System.  I Chair the TeamSTEPPS Steering Committee and Organizational Change Team, serve as a Master Trainer and, within my role, work with MetroHealth’s clinical and non-clinical staff to develop strong, positive leadership and high quality interdisciplinary medical teams.
